Do keep your pet safe and secure by using a pet car seat or kennel. It’s never a good idea to have your pet loose in the car.
Don’t allow them to ride with their head hanging out of the windows. This can cause ear damage. They can also be injured by flying objects.
Do feed your pet very light three to four hours before you depart. This should give enough time for the food to digest and satisfy your pet’s hunger.
Don’t feed you pet during the trip, even if it is a long drive. Feeding a small amount may cause car-sickness.
Do take frequent breaks. Your dog will need water and exercise as well as potty break. Plan on making more stops to accommodate the needs of your four-legged friends.
Don’t leave your pet in a parked car for any amount of time. On a hot day, even with the window cracked, a car can become extremely hot. In the cold, the car can act as a refrigerator and hold in the cold air.
(Packing for your pets is just as important for them as it is for you. Here is a list of things to remember when preparing for your next road trip!)
